Komodo National Park consists of three large islands of Komodo, Rinca and Padar island, as well as 26 other small islands. Natural state of a dry and barren and vast savannas, limited water sources and temperatures hot enough, proved to be a favored habitat of the Komodo ancient animal species. Much of this national park is savanna with palm trees or Borassus flabellifer, that dominate this area.
